Haruki Murakami's 'Norwegian Wood': International Trailer Goes Live

This lyrical trailer makes it all the more mystifying that Anh Hung Tran‘s adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s Norwegian Wood has yet to score U.S. distribution. The wistful coming-of-age story follows young Toru, who is thrust into the sonic version of a Proustian tale about the two women who stole his heart for very different reasons in college. We’re doubly anxious to get a look at the results of this cinematic mashup between two epically talented artists — Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, who wrote the film’s score, and Murakami, a master of elegant and emotionally astute storytelling. This trailer has only ratcheted up our anticipation levels and cemented our determination to see this film on the big screen, even if it involves purchasing a ticket to Japan. Gorgeous.

Can’t wait. Favorite fiction author of all time.
They choose the wrong actor to star Watanabe ; he looks too young and too light to carry the story
Awesome!

I CAN´T WAIT TO SEE IT!!!! I LOVE MURAKAMI….HE MAKES ME FEEL SO HARD ALL THE EMOTIONS IN THE STORY…AND I ALWAYS TAKE AN ADVENTAGE OF IT… =)
Murakami, one of my favorite authors, rather my favorite author. Can’t wait for the movie to be released.
Can’t wait to check it out – love Murakami’s work and it’s exciting to see how others will bring it to screen!
Worried about the tone as well… the trailer seems to lack the melancholy that I feel framed the book (and most of Murakami’s work). The Greenwood score could supply much of that element though.
As I feel with many adaptations, this may not live up to the brilliance of the original work. But, since Murakami is one of my all time favourite novelists, I am curious to see how this film will play out.
i watched this online tonight and it was alright not as great as i’d have hoped though
