It looks like Ewan McGregor is the latest addition to the HBO adaptation of Jonathan Franzen’s The Corrections (the cast already includes Diane Wiest and Chris Cooper). You’ll remember we heard from within the New Yorker Festival not too long ago that Noah Baumbach has taken directorial duties on for the project, which is currently in production. The buzz is certainly building. McGregor will be taking on the role of the middle child Chip in the show. Middle children — complicated creatures are they, though we expect the man who’s successfully played everyone from Obi-Wan Kenobi to a heroin addict is up for the challenge.
In this video recording from his Monty Python days, director Terry Gilliam explains how to duplicate his distinctive paper cut-out animation style. There’s even a bit about how to incorporate Christmas cards, which is by far the best idea I’ve ever heard for recycling them.
Thanks to MetaFilter, we can kick off the holiday festivities with “The Thanksgiving Visitor,” the 1967 adaptation of a story by Truman Capote — and narrated by the author himself! You can watch part one right here.
And finally, it is with sadness that we share the news that author Anne McCaffrey passed away earlier this week. She died on Monday, November 21, at her home in Ireland, surrounded by her loving family. Said her son Todd, “We know that we haven’t lost Mum — that she has truly passed on her legacy of love and honor to all those who were touched by her — and that we have only to open one of her books to find her again.”
