Publicists have accepted that social media isn’t the most reliable tool for promoting films, but we rarely see a disaster on par with what Woody Harrelson and Co. experienced when they reached out to the Reddit community in an attempt to promote the film “Rampart.” Harrelson initiated an AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) post, but things went south almost immediately when people began asking touchy personal questions. It turns out that the only person who wanted to discuss “Rampart” was Woody. At least people are still buzzing about the fiasco … any publicity is good publicity, right?

Looks like James Franco’s dream of adapting Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian has gone bust. But never fear, the actor-turned-director has moved onto another McCarthy project instead: Child of God, which Franco is currently filming in West Virginia.

Remember the Philip Glass-scored 1982 head-trip “Koyaanisqatsi“? Someone has created a version of the film that’s sped up 1552 percent, with a run-time of just over five minutes. And they thought the world seemed crowded and out of control then.

So, we’re really going to have to deal with this “Battleship” thing, aren’t we? Apparently Universal has bought up $50 million in TV, print, and online advertising, all in an effort to make people go see a movie that no one remembers asking for in the first place. And there’s no proof that this whole board-game adaptation idea will actually take off, is there? Even “Jumanji” had a big star (Robin Williams) and a children’s book tie-in.
