Oops! One of Russia’s top film critics reviewed “The Iron Lady” based on a pirated copy that twisted the script around to portray Margaret Thatcher as “a bloodthirsty, Hitler-admiring leader, whose fondest desire is to destroy the working class.” If a critic was fooled, just imagine how many unsuspecting viewers swallowed it without question…
There’s been a real flurry of new interest in Stephen King’s “The Shining” lately — or at least, the Kubrick adaptation of it. A new resource called The Overlook Hotel houses “ephemera related to Stanley Kubrick’s Masterpiece of Modern Horror, The Shining.” Video clips, artifacts, directorial musings — it’s all here, accompanied by that oh-so-unsettling carpet pattern.
I may be a glutton for punishment, but I’m actually excited for “Wrath of the Titans.” Now that their obligation to the original film has been satisfied (dissatisfying as it may have been) they have free rein to get as creative as they want with plot, character, and creature design. A new featurette offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Chimera, that mythological beastie which ultimately wormed its way into our genetic nomenclature.
Speaking of genetics, Michael Bay has irked the nerdy masses with the revelation that his remake of the comics adaptation “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” will change the Shelled Ones’ origin story — they are no longer victims of genetic mutation, they are outright aliens. “We are just building a richer world,” Bay claims. I suspect the only thing getting richer is the director, but I’ll try to keep an open mind.
