Hope you really enjoy “Prometheus” because, according to Guillermo Del Toro, it’s the reason we won’t be getting that adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft‘s At the Mountains of Madness anytime in the foreseeable future — he claims that the new Ridley Scott sci-fi adventure contains the “same premise” and “scenes that would be identical.” That’s actually sort of good news for Lovecraft fans, when you think about it.
We never tire of fantasy-casting biopics of our favorite music legends, or of complaining about who actually winds up playing the role. So how do we feel about Andre 3000 taking on Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming movie? “All Is By My Side” starts filming soon. I’m just glad that Zooey Deschanel got those Janis Joplin ambitions out of her system.
Lately Kate Beaton’s web comic “Hark, A Vagrant” has become obsessed with Wuthering Heights. Suffice to say that Beaton’s take on the material is hilariously charming. Wonder if we can get her to adapt the entire book?
Did you know that the U.S. military cooperates in making Hollywood movies that feature the U.S. military? Your defense dollars at work. Anyhow, apparently they met their match with “The Avengers” — the Pentagon disentangled itself from superhero movie, deeming its portrayal of international military hierarchy too unrealistic. Careful guys, you also nearly officially endorsed Norse mythology.
