Forget what I said about Chloë Moretz being too pretty to star in the “Carrie” remake: The new blood-soaked photos of Moretz in character are all the convincing I need. Am I still allowed to be profoundly disappointed that the casting of Judy Greer (the character actress who played Kitty on “Arrested Development”) as the compassionate gym teacher turned out to be just a rumor?
Speaking of major let-downs, people are already weighing in on the most disappointing summer movies of 2012. People loved to hate “Prometheus,” but at least it was ambitious. Did anyone even mildly enjoy “Dark Shadows”? It’s not even September yet, perhaps the worst is yet to come.
“The Dark Knight Rises” may have broken some box office records, but it turns out that Tim Burton’s 1989 “Batman” outsold it by about ten million more tickets — the apparent success of TDKR is owed purely to the steady incline in ticket prices over the years.
In an unfortunate display of power oddly befitting of her character, Angelina Jolie has determined that her youngest daughter, Vivienne, will play the younger version of Sleeping Beauty in Disney’s “Maleficent.” It certainly adds a few extra layers of symbolism to the tale, connecting it a little more closely to “Mommie Dearest” than to the original fairy tale.
