According to the new trailer, “This is 40″ isn’t a spin-off of “Knocked Up,” it’s a “sort-of-sequel.” Anyhow, whatever it is, it features Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann as their selfsame characters from the 2007 Judd Apatow hit comedy. Aging with this group is going to be a lot of fun — I can age in peace now that I know I’ve got “Now We Are Sixty” to look forward to. (Apologies to A.A. Milne for that last joke!)
Surely enough time has passed that we can derive enjoyment from the failure of a would-be children’s classic. The Onion’s “Nation Still Reeling From Mega-Success of ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins’” offers a wistful glance back at opportunities lost and paths not taken. (The joke paper’s sister-site gave the adaptation a D+ last summer, dismissing it as an “unintentional homage to Confessions: Animal Hoarding.”)
While we’re dabbling in apocrypha, here are some text messages from Nancy Drew, as imagined by The Hairpin. Last month, the same author delivered some texts from Sweet Valley High as well. Give us something Christopher Pike-related and you’ve officially completed the middle school reading list trifecta!
Our post the other day about the feud between William S. Burroughs got me in the mood to hear the old man’s voice again. Here’s the author reading his entire 1953 novel Junky aloud (thanks for the link, MetaFilter!), and here also are are his Words of Advice for Young People. If you happened to be missing a crotchety, avuncular influence in your life, you’re all set now.
