Michael R. Roskam will take a bite out of John Vaillant’s ‘The Tiger’
August 21, 2012
After finishing John Vaillant’s ferocious 2010 book, The Tiger, we immediately started to imagine what a great movie it would make. Fortunately, we did not have to wait long, as Brad Pitt’s production company bought the film rights (with Darren Aronofsky attached to direct) months before the book even went on sale. The Tiger is based on a true story about a fierce Siberian tiger who starts killing people in a remote Russian community, and the band of men tasked to capture and kill the creature.
Deadline recently broke the story that Focus Features has identified Michael R. Roskam as the new director of “The Tiger,” after Aronofsky had to step down to focus on “Noah” with Russell Crowe. Though Roskam is not yet a household name (like Aronofsky), he is garnering a promising reputation after receiving a Best Foreign-Language Film Oscar nomination last year for his film, “Bullhead,” which centers on a young cattle farmer approached by a veterinarian to make a shady deal with a beef trader.
The Tiger is a movie adaptation ripe with potential, and we are excited that a Hollywood newcomer is attached to the project. If you have read The Tiger, who do you think should be cast as main character Yuri Trush?

Weren’t these revenge killings? I thought that the tiger had witnessed a human killing another tiger, so it began to hunt humans.
Always happy to root for the animal vs. the man. Especially if this tiger is a witness to the Evil of Men…
