The latest movie-to-Broadway news is finally going to make "fetch" happen. That's right, Tina Fey and her husband are negotiating with Paramount to create a "Mean Girls" musical. Maybe they can get some sort of toaster pastry sponsorship deal?
Director Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic," "Magic Mike") may be leaving the film world, but according to this disarmingly candid interview, we're still going to be seeing his name attached to stuff in the television and theater worlds. He also cites "Fatal Attraction" as one inspiration for his upcoming film "Side Effects" (scroll down to watch the trailer) which cements him as a director whose work I'll continue to follow, even if he ends up doing sidewalk puppet shows.
H.P. Lovecraft lived a rather tormented life and was virtually unknown at the time of his death. He may not be the kind of person you'd ask for relationship advice, but if you've got supernatural or existential woes, then you might find the "Ask Lovecraft" video blog to be a godsend. The site includes an e-mail address so that you can submit questions of your own. I, for example, have a few really strange dreams I'd like him to interpret.
Normally casting news bores me to tears -- it's all sizzle and no steak. But the prospect of seeing cerebral character actor Paul Giamatti in "Spider-Man 2" as The Rhino is just too delicious, and the mental images I'm getting are surprisingly nourishing. One of our smartest performers as one of our dumbest villains? The cast is already great, but this threatens to steal the show.
