At long last, the nominations for the eighty-fifth Academy Awards are here, thanks to a more-entertaining-than-usual nomination announcement ceremony hosted by Emma Stone and Seth MacFarlane. It’s been a fabulous year for movies of all kinds. The rich pool of candidates for the year’s Best Picture Oscar are proof positive of that, incorporating history, fantasy, music, romance, war, and, of course, the Bayou. Among the nominees across categories we’re met with some familiar favorites — Alan Arkin, Robert De Niro, Sally Field — as well as some brand-new-to-the-noms names — Quvenzhané Wallis, Bradley Cooper, Benh Zeitlin. But here at Word & Film, the category in which we’re most interested is Best Adapted Screenplay, as we’re folks who adore a great book-to-movie transformation. We’ll keep our own opinions to ourselves (for once), and ask you: Of the cinematic beauty-filled pool of contenders, which film do you think will win the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar? Vote in our poll below before the February 24 ceremony, which will also be hosted by the hilarious Seth MacFarlane.
