As a recovering addict, I read James Frey's A Million Little Pieces. It was very confusing and left me feeling hopeless. A little part of me always knew it wasn't accurate. It's important to tell the truth when you claim to be, you never know who is borrowing false strength from your stories.

It is indeed correct that Sixto Rodriguez was also very well known and popular in Australia and that he toured there. However, it must be remembered that South Africa was very isolated from the rest of the world due to cultural boycots.
Also, it was the pre-internet age and we were unaware that Rodriguez was popular in and toured Australia. The movie is about South Africans searching for information on their hero all of whom thought that their hero ws dead. Had it been known that Rodriguez was alive and had toured Australia it would have been unnccessary for fans to start the internet search in the 1990s. If you go onto Sugarman.org website and read the messages that were posted BEFORE he was discovered alive and well, it becomes very obvious that no-one knew anything about him and everyone thought he was dead.
