Is anyone else as excited as I am that Ashley Judd might run for a seat on the Kentucky Senate? The actress (who has never been nominated for an Oscar, but probably should have been for “Bug”) hasn’t officially announced her candidacy, but an insider claims that in “Ashley’s mind, it is happening.” While she has stepped out of the spotlight in recent years, she’s reuniting with her “Kiss The Girls” co-star Morgan Freeman in “Olympus Has Fallen” later this year.
Is it too early yet to start wondering who 2014′s Oscar nominees will be? Here’s a list of forty potential honorees, based on what’s currently in theaters or in production. Sheer speculation of course, but it’s fun to daydream about “August: Osage County” taking Best Picture (if you can’t tell, I’m a Tracy Letts fan), or Naomi Watts scooping up a trophy for playing Lady Di in “Diana.”
While we’re talking about Oscar hopefuls, here’s an illustration of every suit Al Pacino wore in the 1995 movie “Casino” (Sharon Stone’s sole nomination — she’s another leading lady that’s fallen out of the spotlight, but don’t expect to spot her at the Capitol anytime soon).
Two Stephen King classics made it to Blu-ray this week: “Cujo” (1983) and “The Running Man” (1987). The AV Club has offered a very thoughtful critique of both films, trying to orient new viewers to their original cultural context. In both cases I’m surprised we haven’t seen a remake yet. Maybe if “Carrie” goes well?
