Reese Witherspoon may have grown up into America’s Sweetheart, but I’ll always love and remember her best as a hardened urchin in the 1996 cult film “Freeway.” I’ve always hoped I’d get to see her in a role like that again, and now it seems this wish has come true, sort of. Witherspoon’s behavior during a traffic stop in Atlanta (where she’s currently filming “The Good Lie”) earned her a disorderly conduct arrest; meanwhile, her husband garnered a DUI. While the story has indeed — as the actress herself warned — made national news, it seems it’s she, not the arresting officer, who will be dealing with the fallout.
Speaking of rough weekends: Is Daredevil the most miserable superhero ever? The AV Club has enumerated all the character’s woes in one handy place. The article contains some spoilers for the various emerging Daredevil storylines, but it basically all amounts to the fact that no good will come to anyone who puts on that mask. No wonder we don’t see little kids running around in Daredevil costumes…
Along those sames lines, not only has “The Crow” turned out to be unlucky as a character and as an acting role, but it’s also been unlucky as a remake. That last bit at least could finally change soon if Tom Hiddleston steps into the role. It sounds like they’re already doing makeup tests? After so many years of seeing Brandon Lee’s makeup replicated as the most half-assed Halloween costume ever, I really hope they give the character a new look.
Here’s something new that design nerds will flip for. Every day, “Movies in Color” takes a single still from a film and breaks it down to its essential color palette. Right now the blogger’s wrapping up Martin Scorsese week, which means I got a really cool closeup look at Daniel Day Lewis’ glass eye from “Gangs of New York.” I can’t think of a better way to start my Monday morning.
