Chloë Grace Moretz as Carrie © MGM
The first “Carrie” trailer, starring Julianne Moore and Chloë Grace Moretz, is finally here, and it is clear what director Kimberly Peirce has accomplished: The story, based on Stephen King’s novel, is reimagined and even appropriately modernized, but still offers the blood, gore, and terror that will keep King fans sufficiently satiated.
Moore and Moretz have assumed the roles that Piper Laurie and Sissy Spacek immortalized in the 1976 classic horror film. Moretz plays Carrie White, a shy girl from a small town who doesn’t fit in at school, and Moore plays her religious, fanatical, overbearing mother. Carrie is the subject of a special brand of ridicule and bullying at school, and her lashing out serves as the catalyst for her discovery of her telekinetic powers. The trailer (featured below) highlights some of the story’s more iconic moments, including the scene where Carrie gets sloshed with two buckets of pig’s blood at her high school prom.
