Snow Flower and the Secret Fan: Full Trailer Released

Parisian-born, Los Angeles-dwelling, Chinese-American Lisa See has a way with words and we had a feeling all along that her 2005 novel, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, would translate beautifully to the big screen. Finally, with the release of the official trailer for the Fox Searchlight film, we’ve gotten that first glimpse of just how gorgeous “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” will be.

The film stars Bingbing Li, Gianna Jun, Vivian Wu, and Hugh Jackman and is directed by Wayne Wang, who also has the adaptation of Kate DiCamillo’s Newbery Honor-winning Because of Winn-Dixie under his belt. The story follows two friends through their lives in nineteenth-century Japan China, and the film will draw parallels to a pair of friends in modern-day Shanghai.

The movie is set for a July release, so you still have plenty of time to read the book before then — and to make sure your “old same” reads it as well.

This is one of my favorite books, one that I picked up my first year in undergrad and later shared with my ‘laotong’ Finding out that it’s being turned into a movie surprised me, but I’ll definitely see it!

I believe you mean nineteenth-century China
