Entire Internet Put On Hold While We Watch ‘Game of Thrones’ Teaser Trailer

Did you see the new “Game of Thrones” teaser trailer? It will put you on the edge of your seat — and keep you there, since the show doesn’t even begin until April 1.

Few adaptations are as raw, personal, and primal as this work by John I. White: an eleven-year-old’s graphic novel based on Ridley Scott’s “Alien.” That is, it’s based on the novelization of the film written by Alan Dean Foster — before White had ever actually seen the movie. (He’s also the author of Star Wars: Age 9.)

I’ve been watching news about all the attempted Hasbro toy-to-film adaptations (Clue, Monopoly, Ouija, and so forth) but this is the first I’ve heard of a Stretch Armstrong movie. Remember the commercials? Anyway, the film deal that would have cast “Twilight” hottie Taylor Lautner as the titular hero fell through, but Relativity Media has saved the day and scooped up the project. Thanks … we think.

Now that “The Help” is nominated for four Oscars, the controversy over its racial themes can rage all over again. This time James McBride of 40 Acres chimes in to point out that nominating black actresses for portraying domestic servants — a la Hattie McDaniel in “Gone With The Wind” — is a questionable tradition to revisit. The conversation will continue long after awards season; the book’s author, Kathryn Stockett, should be proud that her first novel has resulted in this kind of national soul-searching.
